Kauai, the Garden Isle, is one of the most beautiful islands in
Hawaii. Kauai is called the Garden Isle because it is so green and tropical. Kauai is a
great destination for guests who love to do outdoor activities such as hiking,
swimming, or golfing. All visitors fly into the Lihue airport. Poipu is 10 miles from
the Lihue airport. Wailua/Kapaa is just 7 miles away and the Princeville/Hanalei area
is a beautiful 1 hour drive from the Lihue airport.
Kauai has three distinct vacation destinations:
Poipu, Wailua/Kapaa,
and Princeville at Hanalei.
- Poipu is in the south part of the island and is
also called the sunny side. Poipu gets the least amount of rain on the entire island.
Because of this, it is a favorite area among travellers. There are accommodations to
fit every budget. Many of the properties are on the ocean and have beautiful views.
Poipu beach has the best swimming beach in the area. When staying in Poipu, Waimea
Canyon, the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, is just a short drive away.
- The Wailua/Kapaa area is on the east side of
the island and is more centrally located. There are several hotels and condominiums in
the area. Although the area has many sandy beaches, the ocean can be a little rough
for swimming. When staying in Wailua/Kapaa, be sure to visit the Fern Grotto, a very
popular tourist attraction.
- In the north part of the island is the Princeville/
Hanalei area. This beautiful, lush area gets the most amount of rain on the
island. This resort area is a favorite with golfers. Although the area is located on a
cliff overlooking the ocean there are a few nice beaches in the area. All of the
beaches are accessible by a path down from a cliff.
If you've never been to Kauai, give it a try. It may become your
home away from home.
The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa is a deluxe hotel located in Poipu. It is on the ocean and has a sandy surfing beach. A swimming beach is about a 5 minute drive. The property offers a shuttle service down the bluff to a sandy swimming beach. Some of the property amenities include 2 pools, jacuzzi and 8 tennis courts.
